How Do Rimless Toilets Work?

Toilets have gone through various changes over time. From Victorian-style high and low levels toilets to modern wall hung and smart toilets, there have been a lot of changes in the toilet types and styles over the last century. Rimless toilets are among such innovations that are designed to make our lives a lot easier. In the past, we only had an option to install the toilet with rims, which was making hygiene a big problem for us all. The gaps in the rims were difficult to clean and easily became a breeding ground for germs. Therefore, there was a need for a new design that could illuminate the need for these rims.

Are you planning to install a rimless toilet? Then it will be a good idea to know what the rimless toilets are? And how do rimless toilets work?

What are the Rimless Toilets?

Rimless toilets refer to the design of the toilet pan that simply has no rims. Therefore, you will not see the outside lining on the upper lip of the toilet bowl as it was in the past. It is the latest innovation and makes toilet cleaning easier, quicker, and hassle-free. Such toilet looks almost the same as the standard toilets so; you will not notice the difference between them. It is only noticeable when you remove the lid and check it thoroughly.

What Advantages to Expect from Rimless Toilets?

As discussed earlier, rimless toilets are meant to solve hygiene problems. That was one of the big issues with the toilets with rims. So, that’s one aspect of it. On the other hand, there is more to it. Because the flushing system is changed, you can expect more from such toilets. For example, such toilets flush more powerfully than others. That cleans the surface inside the bowel more easily. Moreover, such toilets usually come with a dual flush cistern which means you can choose the water to flush, making incredible water saving from it. That means you can expect fewer bills over time. In addition to that, more powerful flushing means less need for flushing as it may help get rid of human waste quickly and easily. Many people also like such toilets as they look good too. With more easier cleaning and efficient flushing, you can be at ease that there will be no need to clean the toilet every second day.

What Is the Function of Rims around the Toilet Pan?

You may think if the rims around the toilet pan were such a problem, then what was their need in the first place? It was there for a reason. As discussed earlier, that small part around the bowl is called rims. It was created to facilitate the water flushing as it kept the dirty water down while flushing the clean water into the pan through it. So, it was a kind of water rinsing down the toilet.

So, How do Rimless Toilets work without Rims?

Removing the rims from the toilet pan means the way flushing works has to change. While the rimmed toilets were flushing the water down through it, the rimless toilet was loaded with a flushing mechanism that shoots water towards its edges on all sides of the toilet bowl. So, it leaves no spots missed. That means technically, the way water enters the bowl during flushing is changed. The rear-mounted valve inside the bowl push water in the bowl horizontally along all of its edges. So, you get two major benefits from it. The absence of the rims around the edges makes cleaning easier and makes better use of water while flushing works more efficiently, making them a better alternative to rimmed toilets.

Are there any Disadvantages of Rimless Toilets?

People who are using these toilets have not reported any problems with rimless toilets. So, we can easily assume there are not any. However, sometimes there are minor chances are that the toilet splashes. It is not its design fault but something to do with the cistern water level setting. When you flush a rimes toilet, there are no rims to control it but a cistern that throughs water inside. The cistern will need to release just the amount of water that is enough for flushing. But when the water levels inside the cistern are not set correctly, some extra water may splash over. If you don’t have enough knowledge of how the water levels in the cistern work, then you should minimize the water to fix the problem.

Final Thoughts

Rimless toilets are much needed innovations in toilets. It works by flushing water towards the edges rather than from the edges to the inside. A rimless toilet means you can have a more hygienic toilet option with an efficient flushing system that uses water economically.
