Although animation might not occupy more space on the schedule as the thousands of movies released from Hollywood each year, the films that make it to the big screen and streaming platforms are always a hit in the minds and hearts of critics and viewers. From initial passion projects and studio sequels to small studio films, animation films are available in myriad forms because of the characteristic nature of animation. They include everything from comedies with a focus on character to high-concept epics.
Since the medium has been a part of the primary award race, with the introduction of the Best Animated Feature Oscar, animated films have tried to grow and improve each year in their technical proficiency and storytelling ability to gain critical acclaim. The year 22 has been a great year for animated films, so here are 10 of the year’s most anticipated films!
DC League of Super-Pets
From a conceptual standpoint, DC League of Super-Pets has the potential of a family-friendly, four-quadrant crowd-pleaser. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays Krypto, the Superdog, the leader of a group of animals from the shelter, recently blessed with superpowers to help save their beloved Justice League and become unlikely heroes of Metropolis. The team behind the film is John Whittington and Jared Stern, who has been awe-inspiringly satirizing The DC Universe previously with The LEGO Batman Movie; super-pets will blend the famous voice animals from The Secret Life of Pets alongside a comic book style of self-awareness that can make for an enjoyable family evening in the cinema. Super-Pets will be released to cinemas on July 29, 2022.

Wendell and Wild
From the legendary director Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline), Wendell and Wild have been developing for more than an on and finally found their way onto Netflix for 2022. The film stars Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the duo of demon Con-men twins. Wendell and Wild are expected to blend the bizarre and macabre with a sense of fun, All in meticulously flawless stop-motion animation. The film was first shown as an excerpt at Netflix Geeked Week, showing one of the main characters Kat ( Lyric Ross), in the film. However, there isn’t a release date.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
The film is now an Amazon Prime Video exclusive, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is the fourth film in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania series. Even though Genndy Tartakovsky has handed over the director duties to writing the third installment, however, the film makes excellent use of the kinetically elastic animation that he introduced throughout the previous films to bring another hilarious animated comedy that is a follow-up to The Drac Pack as they make their way back from the result of a mistake in science that changed them into human beings. It also serves as the stage debut of YouTube voice actor and impressionist Brian Hull as his character takes over in the role of Dracula in the role of Adam Sandler.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie
More than a decade has passed after Winnie the Pooh (2011), and the long-running history of animated hand-drawn movies from Disney is back in an unorthodox manner. With more than 200 television episodes to count, The Bob’s Burgers Movie will propel the Fox popular cult hit Bob’s Burgers onto the big screen for the first time as a musical-comedy directed by the creator Loren Bouchard. Fans of the off-color animated series were able to watch the Belcher family perform and dance throughout the musical adventure that was 11 years in its creation.
In the streaming world, we’ll see two versions of the woody boy in the coming year, thanks to Robert Zemeckis, the live-action remake of this 1940 classic animated film for Disney+ and Guillermo Del Toro’s long-gestating stop-motion version of the novel for Netflix. The version of Del Toro promises to be an edgier and more sinister rendition of the Carlo Collodi story. It will feature an all-star voice cast comprising Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz, and Cate Blanchett. Screenplay created by Over the Garden Wall’s Patrick McHale, Pinocchio will make a new edge from the live-action puppet.

The Bad Guys
Similar to Despicable Me, Megamind, and Wreck-It Ralph, The Bad Guys from DreamWorks Animation The Bad Guys posits what could happen if a criminal determined to change their circumstances in life and turn into a good person. Based on the novel series by Aaron Blabey, The film follows a motley group that includes the most feared animals (wolf, shark, snake the spider, the wolf) as they attempt for a fresh leaf after a lifetime of crime and become the ideal citizens. The film marks an evolution in style from DreamWork’s recent projects with high-speed animation and traditional, expressive design.
Director Domee Shi’s Oscar-winning short film Bao was a quick popular in Pixar’s canon of animated shorts, utilizing Chinese symbolism and an enthralling allegory to convey a universal family story. The movie, Turning Red is similar to the tale of thirteen-year-old Mei ( Rosalie Chiang) as she tries to get through middle school amidst the discovery of her family’s mysterious lineage. When Mei becomes stressed and starts to panic, she transforms into the size of a red panda with a flurry of fur and emotion. The movie “Turning Red” is a hilarious and touching coming-of-age drama that only Pixar could achieve.
From initial Avenger From the first Avenger Space Ranger, Chris Evans trades in his vibranium shield in exchange for trillium carbonic metal wings for the film Lightyear. The film is by Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane Lightyear truly embodies the space hero of true blue, who was first introduced to us in the form of a toy in the first Toy Story. The film will feature Evans as “real” Buzz Lightyear, that created the toy that we have come to know and love from Andy’s bedroom in the story of his origin set in the future and beyond. A Sci-fi adventure that is unlike any other Pixar has previously done, Lightyear will set a new benchmark in technical quality for the studio with its compelling but still evocative animation.
