Jorge Masvidal (born November 12, 1984) is a world-class professional fighter from the United States. He is now a Welterweight competitor in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Masvidal has participated in Bellator and Shark Fights, World Victory Road, amongst many others, since 2003. He holds the record for the highest knockout in UFC history, at a time of 5 seconds. He is currently ranked #8 in the UFC welterweight ratings 2022.

Masvidal grew up in Miami, the son of a Cuban father and a Peruvian mother. Masvidal claims that his father fled Cuba on a homemade raft when he was a child and ended up inside the Virgin Islands. Masvidal allegedly approached Covington as he was leaving the restaurant and attacked him twice, breaking one of Covington’s teeth & causing a laceration on his wrist.

Masvidal was charged with aggravated violence causing grievous bodily harm and the first count of criminal trespass a day after the event. Masvidal was arrested and held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami County on a $15,000 bond before being released. Masvidal has did not press charges against the allegations, and his arraignment is set for April 21, 2022.
